Scola Scribendi

Scola Scribendi is the scriptorium of Baile na Scolairi: hard-working scribes who slave away with pen and parchment to create beautiful works of art.  Our name is Irish for "school of scribes".

My best calligraphy hands are Uncial and Insular, but I can also do a passable Gothic textura and Carolingian minuscule. My favorite illuminations are from the book of Kells and 14th century “book of hours” style manuscripts. (Gotta love that gold leaf!)

Other interests:
Early period costuming, embroidery, drawing, painting, cooking, and pewter casting at the moment.

Lady Mary Buchanan

Persona:
1350 - 1390 Scottish, well-traveled, likes fancy (but comfortable) clothes, and daily tea and cakes.

I probably need to concentrate on one calligraphy style and get really good at it, but I enjoy trying every style, as well as thinking up new subjects for illumination.  I really like teaching and encouraging others to try new techniques.

Other interests:
Costuming, embroidery, archery, hatmaking, ivory and bone carving, woodworking, research, costume accessories, hairdressing, and jewelry accessories...
